Who Were the 9/11 Survivors Above the Impact Zone

Survivors above the impact zone were occupants of floors above the aircraft strike points in the Twin Towers. Many worked on upper floors and were able to evacuate before structural failure caused collapse.

How People Escaped from Upper Floors

Survivors used stairwells, elevators, and emergency exits to descend. Some were assisted by first responders and coworkers. Others sheltered in place and waited for rescue teams to reach them.

Long-Term Health and Financial Support for Survivors

Many 9/11 survivors above the impact zone later developed respiratory issues, mental health conditions, and other 9/11-related illnesses. They can access medical monitoring and compensation through the World Trade Center Health Program and the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund.
