What Is a Clouded Leopard Cat

The clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa) is a medium-sized wild cat native to Southeast Asia. It has a stocky build, short legs, large paws, and a long tail. Its fur is marked with large, irregularly shaped dark blotches on a lighter background, providing camouflage in forests.

Habitat and Behavior

Clouded leopards live in tropical and subtropical forests, including evergreen and montane habitats. They are solitary and largely arboreal, spending much time in trees. They are crepuscular and nocturnal hunters, preying on birds, monkeys, and small mammals.

Conservation Status and Threats

The species is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss and poaching. Protected areas and anti-poaching efforts aim to reduce threats. Learn more about clouded leopard conservation efforts at https://www.worldwildlife.org/species/clouded-leopard
