The RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast. It measured about 882 feet long and 92 feet wide, making it one of the largest ships of its era. The vessel was designed to carry passengers and cargo across the North Atlantic.

Construction and Design

Construction began in 1909 and the ship was launched in 1911. It featured advanced watertight compartments and could accommodate over 2,400 passengers and crew. The interiors included grand staircases, dining rooms, and luxury suites intended to attract wealthy travelers.

Fate and Legacy

Titanic departed Southampton on its maiden voyage in April 1912 and struck an iceberg on the night of April 14. The ship sank in the early hours of April 15, resulting in the loss of more than 1,500 lives. For more background, see the Titanic historical overview at https://www.britannica.com/topic/Titanic.
