Olivia Newton John Age During Grease Filming
Olivia Newton John was 29 years old when principal photography for Grease began in 1977. She was born on September 26, 1948, and the film was released in 1978. This made her older than her character, Sandy Olsson, a high school student.
Casting and Role Preparation
Newton John was cast as Sandy after producers sought a performer with a clean-cut pop image. She learned the songs for the film while working on her music career. Her casting helped anchor the movie as a mainstream musical romance.
Grease Release and Career Impact
Grease premiered in 1978 and became one of the top box office hits of the year. The film boosted Newton John's international fame and expanded her audience beyond music fans. She continued acting in films and television in the years that followed.
