Early Life and Career

Kobe Bean Bryant was born on August 23, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He moved to Italy as a child because his father, Joe “Jellybean” Bryant, played professional basketball there. Bryant returned to the United States for high school at Lower Merion in Pennsylvania, where he gained national attention as a standout player.

NBA Career and Achievements

Bryant was selected 13th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 1996 NBA Draft and was immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. He spent his entire 20-year career with the Lakers, winning five NBA championships and two Finals MVP awards. Known for his footwork, scoring ability, and competitive mindset, he became one of the league’s most recognizable stars.

Legacy and Passing

After retiring in 2016, Bryant focused on business, storytelling, and youth basketball development. He won an Academy Award for his animated short film Dear Basketball. On January 26, 2020, Bryant died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, alongside his daughter Gianna and seven others.
