Overview of Oregon Volcanoes

Oregon contains numerous volcanoes, many within the Cascade Volcanic Arc. These volcanoes are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire and include both active and dormant systems monitored by the United States Geological Survey.

Major Volcanoes and Locations

Key volcanic centers include Mount Hood, Newberry Volcano, Mount Jefferson, and Crater Lake, formed from the collapse of Mount Mazama. Many of these sites are managed within National Forests and National Park Service units.

Monitoring and Hazards

The USGS Cascades Volcano Observatory tracks seismic activity, ground deformation, and gas emissions at Oregon volcanoes. Official volcano hazard maps and alerts are available at https://www.usgs.gov/volcanoes/cascades-volcano-observatory.
