Early Life and Family Background

Princess Diana was born Diana Frances Spencer on July 1, 1961, in Sandringham, Norfolk, England. She grew up as the youngest daughter of John Spencer, Viscount Althorp, and Frances Shand Kydd. The family later moved to Park House, on the Sandringham estate, where she spent much of her early childhood surrounded by relatives and estate life.

Education and Childhood Interests

Diana attended Silfield Private School in Norfolk before moving to Riddlesworth Hall School. She later studied at West Heath Girls School, where she was known for kindness and shyness. She showed early interest in music and dance, and she worked as a kindergarten assistant before entering royal circles.

Family Changes and Later Years

Her parents divorced when she was eight, which affected her deeply. She later described feeling "invisible" at home and sought comfort in family and friends. She spent time between the UK and the family home in Althorp, where she remained close to her brother Earl Spencer and sisters.
