Kate Bradley was the widowed owner of the Shady Rest Hotel in the rural sitcom Petticoat Junction. She raised her three daughters, Betty Jo, Bobbie Jo, and Billie Jo, while managing the hotel and the nearby Hooterville Cannonball train.

What Happened to Kate on Petticoat Junction

In 1968, actress Bea Benaderet, who played Kate, became seriously ill. She was gradually written out of the show, and Kate was said to be visiting relatives. Benaderet died in 1968, and the character was not replaced on-screen.

What Happened After Kate Left Petticoat Junction

The series continued as a spinoff focused on the daughters and new characters. Bea Benaderet’s final episodes were compiled from earlier performances. The show ended in 1970, and the Hooterville characters later appeared in Green Acres and other rural sitcom crossovers.
