Vance's Role in NCIS Season 16
In NCIS season 16, Director Leon Vance remains the head of the Major Case Response Team. He oversees investigations, manages field agents, and continues to serve as the primary liaison between the team and NCIS leadership. His role is consistent with his position throughout the series, focusing on command decisions and case strategy.
Why Vance Left the Show
Vance's departure from NCIS season 16 is driven by a storyline decision rather than a real-world exit at that point. The character is reassigned to a new position within the Department of the Navy, creating a narrative transition for the director role. This move sets up changes in the team's chain of command.

Following season 16, Vance continues to appear in later seasons in a reduced advisory capacity. The character maintains ties to the team and occasionally returns for key missions. His ongoing presence reflects the show's effort to keep a familiar leadership figure connected to the main cast.
